Typing the Gestures

[Motion Design, 2024]

"With vowels and consonants, words are formed; with words, thoughts are created; with thoughts, letters are conceived; with the Lettera 22, they are written." This iconic phrase adorned posters crafted by Giovanni Pintori to celebrate the launch of the Lettera 22 typewriter in 1950 by the Italian manufacturer Olivetti.

Drawing inspiration from these historical advertisements, the project wants to recreate the essence of the Lettera 22 typewriter through a digital simulation that allow users experience the intricate relation between typing and movement. With each keystroke, the gestures of their fingers simultaneously trace out multiple curves, emphasizing the simplicity yet profound impact of each action. This project pays tribute to Olivetti's timeless innovation while also serving as a reflection on the evolution of technology over time.
